Welcome . . .

. . . to the website of the Salt Spring Island Incorporation Study. This site provides a portal to the activities of the Committee which was constituted on 15 June 2015, under the instructions of the Hon. Coralee Oakes, Minister for Community, Sport and Cultural Development, in a letter to Salt Spring's three local elected officials on 27 March 2015.  The Study was completed November 21, 2016 and ownership of this website turned over to the local elected officials.

Within this site you will find the Final Incorporation Study Report, along with information on the Study process: its inception; the Committee selection; the Committee’s mandate; the selection of the planning consultant; and the purpose, scope and timeline for the Study. Also included is a comprehensive archive of publications relevant to the Study.

The Final Incorporation Study Report, issued November 21, 2016, was submitted to the ministry, along with the Committee’s recommendation to hold a referendum to  allow islanders to choose from the two options of governance available to them. This was NOT an endorsement of one form of governance or the other.  Notwithstanding the Committee’s recommendation, the Minister will choose if and when to call a referendum.  If he does, it is likely to be conducted sometime early in 2017.
